We are in Road 2 Resurrection and the Blog Series "7 Wisdom Building Scriptures". Let's begin.
Today we are gathering wisdom from Matthew 12:36. It reads, "But I tell you that everyone will have to give account .. for every empty word they have spoken." This is a pretty strait-forward text, but did you know? In a society where we have been granted freedom of speech, and everyone's clamoring to be seen and heard, did you know about this promise made by Jesus?
In verse 37 Jesus goes on to say, "For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." Many Believers subscribe to the Mosiac Law; after all Jesus did say he did not come to abolish the law, but what about these moments along the Lord's walk with His disciples where He expounds and brings insight to the Kingdom of God?
Think about it this way, if you had to pay to speak moment to moment; if it costed you to speak, what words would you take back? Which words would you cancel check on? Which would you decide wasn't worth the cost? Are their times that you would simply hold your tongue? Would you make your words more impactful? This is the essential takeaway from this word to the wise. The truth remains that we are going to pay, or give an account for every word spoken; whether the winnowing fork of our words presents death in the end, or whether it digs us a ditch here on earth-- we can be sure we will feel the weight of this word.
