Welcome to The Road2Wholeness Blog! Thanks for stopping by, and for taking the
read today. It’s been a great time of
digging. I hope you have enjoyed the
dig. Now we move into a series of
motivational blogging. I begin with a
new series “Lord! ASAP”. This is a
series on conversations with God, and God as Lord. Let’s begin.
The closer you feel that you are to God, the easier it is to
speak to God. When God is no longer a
figure in the sky, and He becomes part of who you believe yourself to be, then
you can really see God. But beyond this…
do you believe God can see you? The most
radical shift you can have in your relationship with God is to know and believe
that God sees you.
In Genesis 16:8, Hagar the slave of Abraham’s wife Sarah is
wandering in the desert when the Angel of the Lord calls out to her, and begins
to proclaim God’s vision and intent for the child she is carrying. The first question He asks is “where have you
come from and where are you going?” The
question suggests that she came to God, yet the Bible tells the story as though
God appeared to her. In verse 13, she declares, “I have now seen the One who sees me”.
Imagine the life of a slave, and carrying the unpromised
child. The bible says Hagar began to
despise Sarah after she became pregnant. She then ran off, and found herself at a spring in the desert when the
Angel of the Lord visited her. In this
moment Hagar went from being an object; a slave and an object to Sarah’s desire
to bring God’s words to past; to being seen by God. Not only did she have the life changing
moment of knowing that she was on God’s radar, but she learns that the
unpromised child is also on God’s radar.
I also find it interesting that she was at a spring in the
desert. As we saw in the last blog, “The
Purpose of ReFlection”, the Spirit of God hovers over the waters. In the case of Hagar, we see this play out in
multiple ways as God is hovering over the waters inside and outside of
Hagar. God is keeping watch over the
child Hagar is carrying and as she approaches the spring, the Spirit of God is
awakened to her. This is why the question,
where have you come from? When Hagar
responds, she says “I’m running…” God
then responds with promise.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that God’s response to your
wilderness experience is promise. God’s
response to your confusion is promise.
God’s response to your despair is promise. And it is in the moment of great promise that
God transforms himself into Lord. Only
through promise can God do this! And as
God becomes Lord, we can pray, express, and ask of Him freely. This is not true because God changes His
person, because we know that God is always and forever, but it is true because
of where we now stand in proximity to God.
This is also a major reason for the wilderness experience.
In Exodus, as Moses and his brother Aaron petitioned Pharaoh
to let the people of God go, they continued to say that it was for the purpose
of worship. In the foreground of the
story, they speak about making sacrifices and the use of their livestock, but
in the background of the story; God calls them into a wilderness experience so
that He can transform Himself from God to Lord.
In “Lord! ASAP”, which is a follow up to “Father”, we will
go deeper into how to build our relationship with God by looking at God as a
Trinity and from several different angles.
And if you haven’t figured it out as yet, ASAP is A Series About
Prayer! Join us for the next blog in
this series, and thanks for taking the stroll with The Road2Wholeness Blog
Today!
Remember to go within that you may never go without. The God within you awaits you! Until our paths collide again, I wish you... Peace, Love, Life, and Complete Wholeness in Christ.
