"Father!" A Series on Prayer, blog 2

Welcome back!  Thank you for visiting The Road2Wholeness Blog, and for taking the read today.  We’re in “Father!” A Series on Prayer.  In the first blog the question was, “What do you do when… God ultimately says, ‘you’re not there yet’”?  Now, let’s journey a bit more along this road of “What do you do when…”

Today, the question is, “What do you do when the road is pitch black?”

The idea alone for me is quite scary.  I’m thinking of being on a road that has to be journeyed; there’s no quick exit, there are no crowds of people going in a certain direction, and if there are signs… well, it’s pitch black.  So, now what?

Now we pray.  When God has led you on a path that your current knowledge cannot light, you might ask for wisdom or you might ask for God himself to be your eyes.  One of the biggest advantages humankind has been given, is often left sitting, waiting.  Going to new dimensions in God and particularly through prayer, is about asking your best question when it matters most.

As I noted in the last blog, there are questions, commands, and acknowledgements to be made concerning prayer.  Many years ago, I was taught not to go to God in a chaotic state.  The premise was that God was Love and Peace, and Principle.  It made sense then and I would still agree now, but I’ve also now come to see why Jesus becomes Lord.  Jesus is God meets Humanity.  When we cry out in agony, Jesus remembers.  When we say, “Lord have mercy”, Jesus remembers.  When we say, “Father, take this cup”… Jesus remembers.   And when Jesus remembers, He is moved.

So, there are acknowledgements to be made.  Scripture says that ‘the Lord is close to the brokenhearted’.  The feeling nature of Jesus makes that possible.  But why do I point this out?  Let’s look at two scriptures.

John 6:45:
Jesus says, “They will all be taught by God.  Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to me.”

John 14:6:
Jesus says, “… No one comes to the Father except through me.  If you really know me, you will know my Father as well.”

As you read these two scriptures, you might say there’s a bit of a contradiction, but as I look at my own life, I see the meaning clearly.  These scriptures reveal the many dimensions that exist in God, and the need for both the Father and the Son.  It’s like in reality, you have two parents, and you might know which to ask for what.  As a child I learned about Jesus.  I did not know Him, but I learned about Him, and so I called on Him even when I didn’t know.  It was programming; nonetheless He was there listening and waiting.  When I was severely broken, Jesus sent me to the Father.  He made me whole.  He walked with me, and talked to me, and taught me as Jesus suggested in the scripture above.  Then, I needed to see how to walk out the will of God for my life, and Jesus showed up.  He walked with me, and talked to me, and taught me His ways.  And when the road seemed to break me, He showed me back to the Father who is peace and love and principle.  So we move through a series of rooms or dimensions in God.  And this is a continuing process all mastered by the Spirit of God… for we do not know the ways of God.  Therefore, we also acknowledge the Holy Spirit.  So, if there is a perfect command to be made, perhaps it is simply, “Holy Spirit, lead the way.”  In that way, we always have eyes.  And boy does it begin and end with eyes.  For scripture says, “… the people perish for a lack of knowledge (vision).”

So, as we enter each new dimension, before we take the slightest first step, we commission Light and Eyes by way of the Holy Spirit.

Now let’s go again to the moment we enter that dark road.  This time, upon entry, what do you feel?  Are you overwhelmed by the idea of not knowing, or are you feeling more equipped?  Are you prepared to wander and wonder, or have you found the light switch?  And do you know that you have the power to turn on the light?  What do you believe?  Do you believe that the Father is with you?  Do you believe that the Son is listening and remembering and moving?  More importantly, will you pray?

In the next blog, we talk road.  How to follow God’s prompts in a world filled with sound.  Thank you for walking with me as we go deeper in relationship with God in prayer.

Remember to go within that you may never go without.  The God within you awaits you.  Until our paths collide again, I wish you… Peace, Love, Life, and Complete Wholeness in Christ.
